Bollywood

10 Oct 2011   Shanti Gowans
In our Bollywood dance classes this term we are offering a new, rock-solid dance exercise plan. It is better than the gym, much, much more fun and exciting - and safer! Bollywood dancing will help you get the body you have always wanted.

Dancers are some of the fittest people around. They are strong, healthy and agile, not bulky or gorilla like. This is because dancing targets different muscles, unlike traditional gym workouts. The end result is that you are in toned and shapely, feel healthy, energised, attractive and sexy. You will even notice dramatic weight loss with Bollywood dancing.

If you don't want to shackle yourself to a diet that restricts what you eat, you're better staying active. This is no surprise. People who know that 'this is the time to disco' have always boasted they can eat anything, not gain weight and keep weight off. They love to rub it in too, don't they? Most dancers will admit to eating and drinking whatever they want.

Depending upon the style and type of dance, you get cardio and resistance training and your moves out on the floor are targeting muscles that don't normally get flexed in everyday life. And if you're having fun when you exercise, then you are more likely to stick with it and get the results you are after.

Let's face it. Dancing is fun. Don't you love watching the fast-paced and fancy footsteps of dancing with the stars? The prospect of having so much fun while exercising with bollywood music is tempting! It's a social exercise and tends to bring people together. And it's cultural and an art form. And here's the best part. Like anything else, the more you do it, the better you are going to be. So it won't be long before you're dancing in a crowd on stage.

It's important that if you don't get enough (or any) exercise, that you check with your doctor or health care professional to make sure that you're good to go. It might even be important to start slow. The health benefits have been proven: improved
posture, increased stamina, better memory (yes, dancing is a terrific mental exercise) and of course, weight loss. Just 21 minutes of dancing 3 times a week can match the cardiovascular benefits of working out on a treadmill or bicycle. Wow. Plus, it is in no way as boring, and it's much easier on your body, back and legs than jogging. an added benefit is what dancing does for the endorphins, those natural pain killers and spirit raisers! it's the surest cure for the blues. You can't worry while you're dancing.

In order to be most effective with your dance routines, you will need a strong core of abs and back muscles. Here is where yoga is effective. It's not terribly demanding and it targets your core while gently adding to your flexibility. To look good and feel great, the combination of yoga and dancing are one of the best ways to do it.
