Interpreting Assessment Conditions and Performance Evidence

17 Jul 2016   Shanti Gowans

Performance Evidence:

The spirit of a unit is to ensure students have
- appropriate knowledge and (certain level of skill)
- applied in a simulated environment i.e. several (not one) case study where the candidate can demonstrate all of the performance criteria in a simulated environment (…then they go into the workplace)
- before they are supervised whilst they are in the workplace,
- and then assessed via performance in the workplace

The candidate must show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of a unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role. There must be evidence that the candidate has, at a minimum:
- assisted with at least 3 allied health programs, 1 in a simulated environment and 2 in the workplace
- performed the activities outlined in the performance criteria of this unit during a period of at least 80 hours of work.

All aspects of the performance evidence must have been demonstrated using simulation prior to being demonstrated in a therapeutic workplace under the direction and supervision (direct, indirect, remote) as determined by the allied health professional.

For remote, include 3 case studies to address PC through simulation and then workplace based assessment activities with actual clients.

Thus, the Performance Evidence requires a minimum of 1 simulated (note: simulation included as step 1, because it is really important to ensure candidates have certain skills before being unleashed on actual clients with needs) and 2 workplace based allied health programs.

Assessment conditions state:

The Assessment Conditions require the 1 simulated program must cover all of the requirements contained in the Performance Evidence namely, "show evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit, manage tasks and manage contingencies in the context of the job role".

The assessment process needs to be any type of assessment process where the candidates are provided with the ability to demonstrate everything they need to.
