Golden Milk

Turmeric is pretty phenomenal. It is a humble root that has been used for thousands for it’s potent medicinal properties. Today scientists agree that it does indeed contain potent healing properties that match, and in some cases even surpass the effectiveness of common pharmaceutical drugs.

Statins such as Lipitor and Crestor, antidepressant drugs such as Prozac and Paxil, blood thinners, corticosteroid drugs, and the common pain killers such as ibuprofen were all proven obsolete in the presents of turmeric. These studies also showed that turmeric works better than the popular diabetes drug Metformin

Turmeric has even proven to be a treatment for cancer. The International Journal of Cancer found that curcumin, the active medicinal compound in turmeric, works just as well as oxaliplatin (Eloxatin) at treating colorectal cancer.

Here is a traditional Ayurvedic recipe using turmeric called Golden Milk. This nourishing and grounding drink is a lovely way to end the day.

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
  •  A pinch of nutmeg
  • 3 cardamoms (lightly bruised)
  • 1 inch piece of fresh ginger, finely chopped
  • 1-2 cups of water
  • Raw honey
  • Almond milk or coconut milk
  • 3-4 black peppercorns, lightly crushed

Curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream on its own. Piperine is the active compound in black pepper and it enhances the absorption of curcumin by 2000%!

Instructions

• Simmer herbs and water together for 10-20 mins
• Strain out and put it back in the pot and add your choice of milk and sweetener
• Heat it up to desired temperature.

Golden Tea

Instead of using any milk, whip up a golden tea by blending the tea with 1 tbsp of ghee, coconut oil, cacao butter, or a combination of all 3. Using a high heat resistant blender, or a hand-held blender, works well to create a delicious frothy latte-like texture.
