New Year's Day Message 2013

31 Dec 2012   Shanti Gowans
As we venture into 2013 tonight, let's take a moment to reflect back on the year that's been. 2012 was a colourful year, full of surprises, some beneficial and others devastating, depending upon your perspective. Many expected the end of the world in an apocalypse with fire and brimstone raining down, but we are still here. Most of us haven’t encountered UFOs flying in to rescue humanity. Planet-X has not shown up either. Life goes on. The earth and her people continue to go through major and minor catharses, experiencing the hidden Truth that exists within the nature of great transformation. As the remaining vestiges of a former cycle collide with a new incoming consciousness, new paths of harmony emerge out of the chaos of the present moment. All things that do not serve the greater good are being cleansed from human consciousness and will slowly fade out.

We are always living in unprecedented times. However, our present cycle of change has come with challenges so great that we are incapable of calculating all of them, much less comprehending the interconnected web these challenges portend.

We are aware of how change is increasingly rapid. We struggle with keeping up - with our families, our friends, ourselves. We find ourselves living in a world in which we are essentially out of control at lightening speed. Additionally, every change is now global in magnitude. The internet and television have brought the changes of all nations into view within seconds - and not only into view, but also into our bank accounts, stock holdings, insurance policies and job security. So quickly do forces move these days that often the world we go to sleep in, is not the world we wake up in. Additionally, all change is profound. It has significance well beyond what we are able to grasp, much less do anything about as individuals at an ordinary level of response. We are on continual overload with data, news and information that affects not only our exterior lives but also our emotional, psychological and mental well-being. Of course I frequently hear people tell me that they avoid the news because it’s all negative, but is avoidance really a mature response?

The collapse of the world’s financial markets, the growing universal understanding that the environment is in serious danger, a whole new energy policy being urgently needed, the menance of nuclear war and various pockets of unrest in the world, have opened up the need for a new, sober and urgent reflection about our essential values. The need for radical transformation of our way of being is breaking out everywhere.

We are, all of us, now heading into a very different world. Just as nature has deeply rooted impulses that direct her to map her route through the crisis of global transformation, so also does human nature.

This has great significance in terms of energy. The new world of ours needs to be seen and understood and interacted with as an energetic system of power. We are witnessing the decline of the age of matter and the rise of the age of energy. We are midwives of this new birth, and already we’re hooked on the energy technology of this age in its physical expression, the internet, cell phones and computers. But nothing technological can compare with the extraordinary beauty and power of the awakened human soul. The person that commits their creative energy towards being of service to humanity, knowing that every action now moves the world at a rapid speed and makes a profound difference, has set a course for personal and global transformation.

What is being asked of us is not to “fix” the existing system but to radically transform it so that we no longer, by our choices, threaten our lives and the lives of millions of other species. We can only do this by radically transforming ourselves. We are sensing this path of our own transformation in various ways, one of which is that many people are feeling the need to become active agents for change, which makes us want to roll up our sleeves and get to work. It seduces us to create change from the inside out, or as Gandhi said, to be the peace we long to see in the world. Embroiled in a world of conflict, you have been given the task of providing the bridge necessary to see the world through this critical period. The time has come for you to recognise your capacity to make a difference, however small or grand, and that every action, when done with the consciousness of the divine Presence, adds to the healing of the whole life system.

Life will reorganise and renew itself and find pathways for survival more suitable to the next generation. The clarity of a new year will slowly dominate the ambiguity of the past era, the first signs of which have already appeared.

To truly be of service, you must never judge what life asks you to do. Just experience the Presence in all things and in the smallest detail of your life. Perhaps it is time that we are all step into a whole new world, with more light, love, peace, oneness and grace. You can truly help transform lives. I believe in you.

Now is the necessary union of spiritual practice (yoga, meditation) and radical action. Understanding them, being grateful to know them, and accepting and practicing their truths, leads to peace, energy, wisdom and a sense of profound protection.

My hope for you is that you find both the richest and most inspiring vision as well as the tools you will need to immediately transform your life. There’s never been a time when your message of hope, healing and transformation has been so needed. Don’t wait another minute to start living a better, more fulfilled life.

The day will come when, after harnessing space, the winds, the tide and gravitation, we shall harness the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world a human being will have discovered fire.”  Teilhard de Chardin.

Blessings, Love and Namaste
