Nature Cure

20 Jul 2016   Shanti Gowans

Plants, foods, and many other products of Mother Nature have long been used by human beings as remedies. The ancient people of the Americas, Egypt, Greece, China and India all share common ground in the realm of holistic health for the mind, body, and spirit. What stands out as a strong connection between these ancient cultures is that they all believed in restoring and maintaining elemental balance in the mind and body by using food and herbs as medicine.

And… we are only just starting to understand how wild animals use plant medicines to prevent and cure illness.

Even as medical “advancement” has pushed many people towards the use of dangerous drugs with harmful side effects, natural cures are still aiding people as they free themselves from illnesses.

Native American Medicine
Many indigenous tribes of north and south America learnt that by mixing herbs, roots, and other natural plants, that they could heal various medical problems. The plant medicine was a big part of the American Indian healing process. It went hand and hand with ceremonial and ritual practices.
Ancient Egyptian Medicine
And just like the American Indians, the ancient Egyptians believed magic to be effective together with plant medicine. And plant medicine to be effective together with magic. Herbs played a major part in Egyptian medicine as well. Some of the plant medicine mentioned in the Ebers papyrus include cannabis, cumin, coriander, fennel, senna, thyme, juniper, aloe, linseed, and castor oil. Many herbs were steeped in wine, which was then taken as an oral medicine.
Ancient Greek Medicine
The ancient Greeks believed that there were four humors making up the body, and an imbalance in these would lead to both mental and physical illnesses and ailments. Many of the Greek medicines and herbal remedies were based upon restoring balance to the mind and body, and this belief continued in European thought well into the Middle Ages.
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Ancient Chinese medicine is another healing art that helps restore the body to balance and works on an energetic level to affect all aspects of a person's mind, body and spirit. The beauty of Chinese medicine is that it can be used to correct imbalances that have become illness and pain, or even correct imbalances prior to the appearance of symptoms, preventing disease. TCM treatments address imbalances using food, acupuncture, herbal remedies, exercise, and meditation.
Ayurvedic Medicine
The ancient practice of Ayurveda is the oldest holistic healing system in the world. It was first recorded in India more than 5,000 years ago, in the four sacred texts (in a language known as Sanskrit) called the Vedas.
Ayurveda translates  as 'The Science of Life', and focuses on using food as medicine. It includes universal interconnectedness (among people, their health, and the Universe), the body’s constitution (prakriti), and life forces (dosha), which are often compared to the biologic humors of the ancient Greek system.
Ayurveda creates harmony between the body, mind, and spirit, maintaining that this balance prevents illness, treats acute conditions, and contributes to a long and healthy life.
Why reinvent the (medicine) wheel? Modern medical scientists could learn a lot from our ancestors.

If you would rather use a natural remedy than a manufactured drug that causes side effects that in many cases seem worse than the illness the drug treats to begin with, then look at our Ayurvedic herbal remedies. These natural remedies are being “re-discovered” as people are looking for a more holistic approach to their ailments, and for self-healing strategies to address the root causes of a health problem instead of just being treated for its symptoms.

Its all part of a new growing “wellness” movement driven by people who want to take their personal well-being into their own hands and feel empowered when they do.

You have come to the right place. The combination of Ayurveda herbs, remedies and treatments, yoga and meditation is the perfect solution.
