Yoga is the ultimate science of human transformation. The Health Institute Australia's Yoga Teacher Training program is the culmination of four decades of Shanti Gowans' experience in teaching yoga to monastic and lay students, and training yoga teachers. It provides a comprehensive, fully integrated curriculum, in three parts, that far surpasses the standards set by the industry, and produces exceptional teachers who are recognised as gurus in their field of influence. The trendiness of popular yoga will have us believe that Yoga is just a vehicle for exercise. However, Yoga is so much more. Shanti Yoga has evolved from a traditional lineage of authentic, classical yoga through the mind of a deeply experienced Yogi with 40+ years of experience of teaching in the West.

It integrates and incorporates the knowledge, philosophies and practices of traditional yoga, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras with contemporary developments in yoga that are universal and of direct relevance to the current stage of evolution in our western society. 

Shanti Yoga teacher training is based on personal growth, helping others, shedding the ego and turning negativity into positive thinking and actions, to awaken the world. When you study to be a Yoga Teacher at Health Institute Australia, your course will involve much more than just downward dog, handstands or sun salutations, and also much more than just textbook learning. You will be taught the history of Yoga, along with its philosophy, and psychology and learn a wide range of practices and skills to gain the ideal preparation for your future.

All your course materials are provided, and you will have the bonus of experiencing your life at spiritual retreats. There is no enticement to spend money on additional requirements in the form of packages, workshops, seminars, and so on, for deepening your knowledge and practice.

Each part is conducted over 52 weeks, comprising an academic year of 40 weeks duration, with breaks.

Our flagship training curriculum is an exhilarating 10-part experience that harmonises twenty-first century science and ancient wisdom in one eye-opening path to self-empowerment. Utilising communication, drama, dance, chantining, explorative, comtemplative and experiential approaches to learning, see yourself blossom into your best self. Balance your mind, body and spirit. Second year, Diploma of Yoga Teaching, 10554NAT (CRICOS Code: 087990D)
You learn the art and skills to transform your life and the lives of others towards health, wealth and happiness. The training delivery is consistent and effective across all trainers who deliver your classes, with model session plans that link to government regulations and standards for your accredited course and its units of competency.    Helped by detailed scripts, practicum and feedback, you will be certified to teach through your Diploma of Yoga Teaching and Life Skills, and will leave this training with the ability to teach a 55 minute Shanti Yoga stretch and tone Yoga class, as well as the tools to work with students with a variety of different goals and abilities.
Here is how it works:
• Lectures, tutorials, discussion assists you establish a deeper level of understanding.
• Practice and Analysis is where you take what you have learnt in the lectures and put it into practice, so that you are prepared to help your students through the same process.
• The Application Phase during tutorials is where you learn the craft of teaching, with skills assisted with the help of peers in your program and the teacher. 
• Assessments make sure that you have understood everything from the lectures, practice and anslysis sufficiently.

Each year is comprised of:
 
CLASS ATTENDANCE 
On the mat and meditation cushion, which, in an ideal world would equate to 10 hours a week to accrue 400 hours a year of matwork with a teacher. The Shanti Yoga™ clear teaching style and Shantiji's relaxed sense of humor will provide you with a complete yoga, breathing, relaxation and meditation practice that teaches you how to express your life's true purpose creatively and confidently.
 
TUTORIALS 
Certificate IV in Yoga, 10553NAT
20 weeks of peaceful, instructional tutorials, per academic year, provide the Shanti Yoga™ curriculum on Monday evenings, 4:45-8:15pm. These are conducted in discrete modules, which wholistically meld into the syllabus. They accrue 80 course hours per year and can be attended by skype. They are supported by instruction during 'mat' hours.
 
Diploma of Yoga Teaching, 10554NAT
For the second year, tutorials are conducted on Monday evenings, from 2:00-5:00pm. Regardless of your level of experience, you are guaranteed to gain practical skills for transformation through attending lectures, practices and discussions. They accrue 60 face-to-face course hours per year and can be attended by skype.

Yoga teachers talk about the breath incessantly, and yet most students struggle to practice correctly in class, and almost no students are using yogic breathing outside of class - do you?. Breathing is a powerful tool that allows the individual to take conscious control over their autonomic nervous system. This course includes 25+ pranayama practices to help you as a teacher and student understand how to use breath more effectively. You will learn:
- Basics of yoga breathing in various types of yoga classes (it’s not all the same)
- How to start teaching breath in the supine position
- Fundamentals of up and down regulating as well as balancing breath
- Breathing practices pertinent to cleansing, activity type, time of day and so on

Can you learn to be successful in life from people who are not? That ingredients lie in how you harness your personal power, which is what practising with a teacher provides. Empowerment will allow you to take your dreams and make them come true. It will enable you to be fearless, and equip you to take immediate and long term, massive, repeated action and never give up until you can live your dreams. 

On the other hand, many people who "practice" yoga, do so mindlessly, and lack these abilities, and while they still have the same yearnings and desires as everyone else, yet they stay stuck and unfulfilled. They never make their dreams come true. Their lives are an endless series of “what if” questions they ask themselves. They feel powerless in their lives, and live forever at the whims of others which can include nasty bosses, credit card companies, or others trying to hold them back. They never discover the secret to incredible power that is hidden within them. But harnessing this power can be more than just a dream or fantasy. You are already on your way to achieving your potential.
 
 
RESIDENTIAL WEEKEND RETREATS 
Spend a peaceful and wholesome weekend with Shanti Yoga teachers and mentors, fellow learners, and attendees from the general public. There are 4 optional residential retreats per year that are included in your course curriculum for study-work-life balance. They are a bonus and a gift from Shantiji and no fees are levied for twin-share accommodation. There are no rain checks for this gift, and unused portions of the retreat (or parts of) are forfeited. Upgrade to a single room are based on availability and incurs a fee. Special meals also incur an additional fee.
 
Retreats are Healthy Living Immersion Programs that offer you a holistic approach to health. This means that you focus not only on the health of the body, but also on the mind and heart and environment, helping you discover a new level of wellness and vitality thorugh study-work-life balance. These accrue 18 hours per retreat. Friday 4pm to Sunday 4 pm.

The Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching and Leadership is a outstanding 600 hour course, which is the culmination of an extensive 1800 hour yoga teacher training program. It is designed to provide an intensive, developmental experience with wonderful resources that enables high potential yoga leaders, through robust and intensive engagement and participation in a mentored and peer-oriented leadership development experience, deepen your understanding and knowledge base, and expand your services to your students and in the community.

It will be conducted over a 2 year period, with space to assimilate the teachings and to accommodate those of you who live interstate. 

Participants engage in a deep exploration of their own strengths, weaknesses and opportunities as they relate to building and maintaining highly effective yoga classes and expand your services. In addition to delivering exceptional, professional development, the program equips participants with the insights, skills and confidence to accelerate their own career progression and sets out to create powerful role models for future yogi leaders.

The Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching and Leadership Program is grounded in principles of authentic leadership and values-based leadership. It is enriched by a framework that focuses on interpersonal and behavioural dynamics central to the successful management and leadership of others. (The program does not deal with the technical or administrative aspects of management). The program adopts a blended learning methodology that is based on proven principles of adult learning (combining mentor and peer knowledge - sharing, experimental exercises, practical workplace application, self-analysis and reflection).

Throughout the program, learnings are related back to the day-to-day realities and challenges of each participant. This process is enhanced through participant-generated discussions that unlock the existing skills and experience within the group. The coaching and peer mentoring process within a program of co-participants, is fundamental to the program and greatly enhances the learning process.  During the program, participants engage deeply with their fellow cohorts. Over the 24 month duration, the group develops into an invaluable peer network.

The Advanced Leadership Program is delivered in a blend of face-to-face, ‘real time’, interactive tutorial-workshops which enables a physical connection and networking opportunities, and a gift of four (4) residential (accommodation and meals included) silent meditation weekends at Nirvana Wellness retreat. These allow participants the space to work through their own processes in a way that is both non-judgemental and accepting. 

To our previous students
To those of you who have undertaken studies with Shantiji prior to government accreditation of the courses, and those students who may have completed the new government accredited courses which are: Cert IV Yoga (the awakening course), Diploma of Yoga Teaching (the teaching course) and Adv Dip. Yoga (the leadership course), Shanti Yoga is integral to who you are teachers. Many of you have drunk from the well that is deep with experience, knowledge and authenticity, and now reflect as best you can, and in as many ways that you naturally can, the grace and generosity of the teachings that you have learnt from Shantiji, to your students. 
 
As this could be the final course that Shantiji teaches herself, Health Institute Australia have decided to waive the pre-requisite qualification of Diploma of Yoga Teaching for previous course students and subsume the Diploma curriculum into the Adv Dip. to enable some of you who have done your studies a long time ago to upgrade to the most current qualification.

Mat practice is necessary and the honour system applies. If you are local and would like to do your mat practice at a Shanti yoga centre, please enquire about attendance.

CORRESPONDENCE, DISTANT and BLENDED LEARNING 
 
When home is too distant, you can join the information highway from your own lounge room. Off campus, distance education is by correspondence, via notes, text books, CDs and video. The syllabus and fees are exactly the same as studies on campus. With home study, you can save time, start any time you choose, retain your current job and lifestyle, learn at your own pace with no class room competition, and have ample time for completion. You can email us your assessment assignments, and if you have questions, and we will do our best to answer your questions and concerns on email, and if you want to talk to us, our teachers get onto skype with you for one-to-one coaching or discussion that you may need help with, for up to 1 hours a month for 12 months. 
 
By your choice and initiative, 
- You can interact personally, on skype, with your instructors, who are certified master trainers in the Health Institute Australia systems.
Our tutorials and classes are not pre-recorded lectures. They are live classes, where you can interact with your instructors, and fellow students, and where you can ask questions.
- You have a personal mentor
In an ideal world, your mentor would be one of your instructors, who can answer your general questions, offer assistance and ensure you get the support you need.
- You can receive free coaching sessions should you need them, by skype, for up to 1 hour a month, for 12 months.
- You have a personal support team, a built-in support of a group of 3-4 fellow students. You can celeberate your success and wins, discuss practices, be part of the philosophical discussions, case studies and scenarios that come up during practicum. You are likely to find that your fellow students turn into lifelong friends.
- Practice, practice and more practice. You develop foundational practice skills, plus processes, templates, scripts, tools and so much more to help progressively build your learning skills, teaching skills and yoga living skills.

This course is ideal for the novice or existing practitioner for personal development and also as foundational study for a teaching qualification. It offers the perfect opportunity to holistically extend your knowledge and practice in a fulfilling way. In this course there is no fixed starting dates, no requirement for class attendance, you can study at your own pace and you have the flexibility to practice with the DVD pertaining to cert IV studies, as well as the CDs provided to extend the complexity of hatha practice.
