The Meditation Institute is pleased to announce that we will be offering the government accredited Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant training course, Cert IV in Ayurveda (official name), in the government health training package, beginning in March 2010. The course is conducted in English, on one residential weekend a month, Friday to Sunday, on fixed dates (see program schedule below).

Introduction
Ayurveda, the knowledge of life, is more than wellness (though it is often marketed as such outside India). It a medical system and a offers much greater in-depth and holistic knowledge and practise which are beneficial for both the practitioner and patient. Open to all, the Ayurvedic program introduces Ayurvedic health principles and practices. These practices are based on the health teachings from the wisdom books of India, known as the Vedas and incorporate societal vision and aspiration to help the world. This level of training cultivates one’s dignity and natural gifts that are able to widen one’s sphere of compassionate and practical influence and is invaluable for your own health and wellbeing, your family, friends and clients.

You will learn
During your course, in addition to the theoretical knowledge and understanding, you will

- practice the wisdom of the ages by attending practicum in yoga, pranayama (yoga breathing), nidra (yoga deep relaxation), meditation, mantra
- work effectively in a health retreat
- create, cultivate and tend to an organic Ayurvedic herbal and plant nursery
- learn how to prepare and cook delicious, healthy Ayurvedic meals
- give and receive Ayurvedic relaxation massage
- learn how to prepare your own medicines and cosmetics
- learn how to do a health consultation

This qualification covers the skills needed to work as a Practitioner in Ayurvedic Therapeutic and Remedial Treatments including Ayurvedic herbal medicine, Ayurvedic massage and Ayurvedic nutritional advice. As an Ayurvedic Practitioner you will be able to check the equilibrium of each person, defining their composition and help them quantify the status of their equilibrium. You will also help the client/patient define his or her ideal state and recommend means to achieve it. As Ayurveda has so much to do with health and personality development with its moorings on adaptibility and building natural resistance to disease, the program is structured not only to help clients achieve good health but also understand the nuances of adaptability so that a healthy lifestye becomes a lifetime habitual pursuit. AYURVEDIC STUDIES OFF CAMPUS

Study Ayurveda off campus by distance/correspondence education at your convenience. The syllabus and fees are exactly the same as studies on campus. With home study, you can save time, start any time you choose, retain your current job and lifestyle, learn at your own pace with no class room competition, and have ample time for completion. Correspondence may be via email, CD or notes.

Enrolment procedure
You may enrol and start throughout the year by sending your completed. Enrolment Form together with full payment for the course you have chosen to the office. You will be sent a receipt, confirmation of enrolment (which you could need
to support Youth Allowance/Austudy/Abstudy applications) and your study package.

Tution fees
Tution fees must be paid in full on enrolment. You can pay by credit card, eftpos, cheque or cash at The Meditation Institute's office.

Course notes
Course notes are exceptionally clear, use a main point outline method of presentation, are well organised, remarkably concise and easy to learn. They are simplified and written for Westerners, so that somewhat archaic formats and complicated Sanskrit terminology has English translations. They outline the objective of the lesson, how this is delivered and the expected learning outcome. The material is geared towards a practical study plan and its application in your own life and further.

To fulfill the comprehensive requirements of the courses in the practical areas, for instance massage, the body of Ayurveda, rejuvenation and revitalisation, pharmacology of Ayurveda etc. an interactive CD Rom or Video is included when a course requires it.

Workshops
You will complete the practical aspects of the course through workshops held at week-ends in the Gold Coast Campus. You may have to allow for travel and accommodation expenses. Please note: Not all subjects have workshop components.

Assessments
Workshops are held several times a year with the dates published in the Meditation Institute calenday/diary. All subjects are progressively assessed. This means that there will be more than one piece of work assessed for each subject. It can take the form of a written assignment, written theory exam, practical assessment or case study.

Assessment can be completed either off campus under supervision, on campus, or at workshops. Supervisors must be approved by The Meditation Institute's Ayurveda faculty. The subject guide will explain what assignments are required for each subject. Where practical assessment on campus is not possible, video assessment will be necessary.

Clinical Practice
The clinical subjects require attendance at the Gold Coast campus. Clinics are held several times a year with upcoming dates published in The Meditation Institute newsletter.

With this growth comes the demand for suitably qualified practitioners to guide people safely and effectively. The Cert IV - Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant’s course is a nationally recognised vocational training course that draws from the extensive classical and authentic traditions of Ayurveda. Delivering 600 hours of training, this course provides a breadth and depth of learning that is second to none which has earned it the highest regard nationally and internationally. Whilst firmly anchored in the classical heritage of Ayurveda, the course is based on a synthesis of the current perspectives on health, along with an integration of contemporary wellbeing information and practices. This accredited Cert IV course has been developed in consultation with a wide range of teachers and practitioners of Ayurveda, including representatives of the health care industry and training authorities.

What you will learn
The curriculum content of this course has many subjects, all leading to becoming a professional and proficient Ayurvedic lifestyle consultant. The subjects outlined, are an overview of the intented content that is included in the curriculum and is not a complete subject listing.

In this training, you will explore the foundations of Ayurveda as a life science and focus on Ayurvedic nutrition and lifestyle. You will learn how you can assist your clients and yourself experience greater health and vitality. Inclusive in this course are practicum components consisting of Ayurvedic cooking, cultivation, massage, health retreat, clinic and stress management skills. You will also, through the practice of yoga postures, meditation and breathwork, release muscular tension, relax your mind and enhance body/mind awareness for yourself.

Teaching Staff
Our teachers are qualified in and have up to date knowledge, expertise and experience about the practice of Ayurveda and its related fields of science, humanities and education. They maintain the currency of their skills and knowledge through being practitioners in their field of expertise, as well as through ongoing research and professional development. Teachers of the specific subjects of Ayurveda and Yoga have many years of experience as teachers and practitioners in these fields, as well as current membership with a number of peak industry bodies.

Learning Environment
The course learning environment reflects best practice in Ayurvedic education, with a blend of theory and practice appropriate to the teaching of Ayurveda. Learning outcomes are integrated across subjects, with practical skills being developed in simulated and actual teaching situations. TMI provides free access to library resources on their premises, and career counselling and mentoring is provided by course teaching staff. TMI is easily accessible by public transport.

Entry Requirements
While there are no formal entry requirements, it would be beneficial for candidates to have the following literacy competencies sufficient to:
- Reading, analysing and commenting on Ayurvedic texts in English
- Writing analytically on matters related to their interpretation of Ayurvedic teachings
- Reading and understanding technical texts in English, specifically in the fields of anatomy and physiology
- Reading and understanding legal and other business related documents pertaining to the vocation of Ayurveda
- good interpersonal and communication skills;
- a mature and responsible attitude;
- a caring nature required in the consulting of Ayurveda; and
- a demonstrated commitment to Ayurveda and its principles.

Austudy/Abstudy
Approval has been granted for the Cert IV Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant’s course to be recognised as an approved course for the purposes of Youth Allowance, Austudy Payment, Abstudy and the Pensioner Education Supplement delivered through Centrelink.

How long is the course?
The course will be delivered over a period of one academic year. The duration of the course, inclusive of holidays is 40 weeks. The course commences in MARCH 2010 and will be delivered for 20 hours a week. Participants will also be required to attend regular Yoga classes, establish a personal Ayurvedic routine and undertake a range of study assignments. Core Ayurvedic lectures and practicum (Mon & Tues 2-5pm, Wed 10.30-1pm, Fri 10.30-5pm) will commence in March 2010.

Tuition fees are $6500.
The full course fee is $6,500, which includes all tuition and training as outlined and course notes.

ALC, Residential weekend study course

The Meditation Institute is pleased to announce that we will be offering the government accredited Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant training course, Cert IV in Ayurveda (official name), in the government health training package, beginning in March 2010. The course is conducted in English, on one residential weekend a month, Friday to Sunday, on fixed dates (see program schedule below).

Introduction
Ayurveda, the knowledge of life, is more than wellness (though it is often marketed as such outside India). It a medical system and a offers much greater in-depth and holistic knowledge and practise which are beneficial for both the practitioner and patient. Open to all, the Ayurvedic program introduces Ayurvedic health principles and practices. These practices are based on the health teachings from the wisdom books of India, known as the Vedas and incorporate societal vision and aspiration to help the world. This level of training cultivates one’s dignity and natural gifts that are able to widen one’s sphere of compassionate and practical influence and is invaluable for your own health and wellbeing, your family, friends and clients.

Course overview
The popularity of Ayurveda as a modality of health and wellbeing has steadily grown in recent years. With this growth comes the demand for suitably qualified practitioners to guide people safely and effectively. The Cert IV - Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant’s course is a nationally recognised vocational training course that draws from the extensive classical and authentic traditions of Ayurveda. Delivering 600 hours of training, this course provides a breadth and depth of learning that is second to none which has earned it the highest regard nationally and internationally. Whilst firmly anchored in the classical heritage of Ayurveda, the course is based on a synthesis of the current perspectives on health, along with an integration of contemporary wellbeing information and practices. This accredited Cert IV course has been developed in consultation with a wide range of teachers and practitioners of Ayurveda, including representatives of the health care industry and training authorities.

Where this course might take you
The Cert IV - Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant’s course will provide you with the practical skills and related scientific and historical knowledge required to become a competent and effective health care adviser in the field of Ayurveda. You will have a high level of competency in all aspects of the fundamentals of Ayurveda, underpinned by an experiential understanding of its meaning and processes. You will also have the requisite skills and professional standards to be a well credentialed professional in the fields of wellbeing and personal development.

In view of the longer term outlook towards your contribution and life purpose, this could be the time to renew and renergise your entrepreneurial fires. Entrepreneurship is not a seasonal thing. We don’t have to wait until our birthday to set new goals and come up with new ideas. This Ayurvedic course will fulfil your personal, family as well as vocational needs. For human beings the question is not one of limits but of possibilities. Each day our lives offer a lot of meaning and opportunities. We’re all richer if we decide to find the meaning and take advantage of the opportunities. This outlook can be contagious.

What you will learn
The curriculum content of this course has many subjects, all leading to becoming a professional and proficient Ayurvedic lifestyle consultant. The subjects outlined, are an overview of the intented content that is included in the curriculum and is not a complete subject listing.

In this training, you will explore the foundations of Ayurveda as a life science and focus on Ayurvedic nutrition and lifestyle. You will learn how you can assist your clients and yourself experience greater health and vitality. Inclusive in this course are practicum components consisting of Ayurvedic cooking, cultivation, massage, health retreat, clinic and stress management skills. You will also, through the practice of yoga postures, meditation and breathwork, release muscular tension, relax your mind and enhance body/mind awareness for yourself.

You will learn
During your course, in addition to the theoretical knowledge and understanding, you will-

- practice the wisdom of the ages by attending practicum in yoga, pranayama (yoga breathing), nidra (yoga deep relaxation), meditation, mantra
- work effectively in a health retreat
- create, cultivate and tend to an ozganic Ayurvedic herbal and plant nursery
- learn how to prepare and cook delicious, healthy Ayurvedic meals
- give and receive Ayurvedic relaxation massage
- learn how to prepare your own medicines and cosmetics
- learn how to do a health consultation

and so much more. By the end of the academic year (9 months later) you would have finished your ALC training and will be ready to start practice, if that’s what you intend to do and will be further eligible to take on studies in the Advanced Diploma in Ayurveda if this is your vocational choice.

Teaching Staff
Our teachers are qualified in and have up to date knowledge, expertise and experience about the practice of Ayurveda and its related fields of science, humanities and education. They maintain the currency of their skills and knowledge through being practitioners in their field of expertise, as well as through ongoing research and professional development. Teachers of the specific subjects of Ayurveda and Yoga have many years of experience as teachers and practitioners in these fields, as well as current membership with a number of peak industry bodies.

Learning Environment
The course learning environment reflects best practice in Ayurvedic education, with a blend of theory and practice appropriate to the teaching of Ayurveda. Learning outcomes are integrated across subjects, with practical skills being developed in simulated and actual teaching situations. TMI provides free access to library resources on their premises, and career counselling and mentoring is provided by course teaching staff. TMI is easily accessible by public transport.

Entry Requirements
While there are no formal entry requirements, it would be beneficial for candidates to have the following literacy competencies sufficient to:
- Reading, analysing and commenting on Ayurvedic texts in English
- Writing analytically on matters related to their interpretation of Ayurvedic teachings
- Reading and understanding technical texts in English, specifically in the fields of anatomy and physiology
- Reading and understanding legal and other business related documents pertaining to the vocation of Ayurveda
- good interpersonal and communication skills;
- a mature and responsible attitude;
- a caring nature required in the consulting of Ayurveda; and
- a demonstrated commitment to Ayurveda and its principles.

Austudy/Abstudy
Approval has been granted for the Cert IV Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant’s course to be recognised as an approved course for the purposes of Youth Allowance, Austudy Payment, Abstudy and the Pensioner Education Supplement delivered through Centrelink.

Program fees are as follows:
Payment up front: 9 residential weekends of training, inclusive of course fee ($6500), accommodation and meals is $10,000.
Payment plan: Pay $5000 and $695 per month for 9 months.
Repeat students pay 50%.
