Learn to meditate and watch your life improve. Excellent introductory meditation book for beginners. The purpose of this book is to activate the practice of meditation in people who are committed to improving their lives. In essence, the created universe, including each of us, is pure energy (e=mc2). The life force (consciousness) that flows through us gives this energy form as thought, body and action. This fundamental life force is naturally aware, joyful, spontaneous, practical, communicative, active and confident. Meditation provides a means of attuning yourself with the life force that spontaneously generates all of these qualities.

Inspirational.
The vision presented in this book is a compilation of a stream of consciousness that has emerged over many years in response to so many of my students in need of: time patience, and attention to heal when they were broken; help in keeping a life together during times of pain, illness, suffering, mourning, and perspectives that nurture, sustain and enrich, to create a framework for personal and inner work and spiritual wellbeing this book also bears the imprint of the synthesis of Yoga, vedanta, Buddhism and Ayurveda - the fields of spirituality and holistic medicine that have inflamed my heart and consolidated the refinements gathered in these last thirty years of teaching yoga in Australia. |
This book by Shanti Gowans, a highly acclaimed teacher of yoga and meditation in daily life, provides a guide to using spiritual principles to guide your intimate and closest relationships. This book is designed for people who are interested in the holistic, practical application of spiritual principles to intimacy, love and transformation.
Intimacy involves the deepening of our relationships and our
vocabulary for unconditional love. Love involves unconditional
acceptance of life as it is in the present moment and the nurturing of happiness, joy and peace in all relationships. Transformation is the process of continual change as the spirit of love seeks form along the evolutionary pathway of human consciousness towards self-realisation - the direct awareness
of our inherent nature (the Self) as unconditional love. Wisdom Parenting involves the nurturing of ‘the spirit child’ in ourselves, our partner and our family through the release of the unconditional Love that radiates from the core of our Being. Yoga, Meditation and Ayurveda provide us with deep and powerful practices that can lay the foundations for successful transformation. The invitation from Shantiji is to use the inspiration, intelligence and energy in this book as a catalyst for our own journey toward Self-realisation through intimacy, love and transformation. |

Shantij's discourses and teaching on Buddha’s Maha Satipatthana Sutra and Vipassana Meditation.
Our stream of consciousness is like that of a monkey jumping from branch to branch. Yet we have the power to stop the antics of this ‘monkey mind’, to achieve a quiet or still mind which is essential for the development of our spiritual nature.
'Sitting Beyond Thinking' is the outcome of the regular retreats Shantiji conducts in Vipassana meditation to meet the needs of students, both living in the East and West. You must not use this book however as a substitute for attending a Vipassana retreat in which the emphasis is always on actual practice. Given this emphasis, some explanations are still necessary to provide the context for the practice. The Maha Satipatthana Sutra, The Great Discourse on the Foundations of Mindfulness is an important text because all instructions are directly or indirectly based on Buddha’s teachings.
What makes this text so powerful and inspiring is that Buddha’s actual words are presented here. Shantiji has presented both the original work as well as an expose of contemporary thought, presenting a wide world view, showing you how the practice of meditation can be a deep and life-sustaining activity. This work is for those of you who wish to find your path, gain knowledge and be in your right mind which is somewhere between being insane or brainless, sitting wholeheartedly in the middle of your life with clarity and practicality. Experienced vipassana practitioners will find |
