Building on the foundational knowledge established in Cert IV Yoga Education and Diploma of Yoga Teaching, Shanti Yoga Healer Courses progress to more advanced practices and a deeper understanding of the supporting concept: Begin with the Body, Heal with the Mind - the approach and application of yoga therapy. This stream of education and healing explores more deeply how yoga works, what yoga can treat and the management of chronic, “incurable” diseases and disorders, through yoga. Practice a methodology for one-to-one yoga therapy sessions. Both lay-people as well as alternative and conventional Health Practitioners can make maximum use of yoga for health maintenance, prevention and in many cases, cure of disease.

One does not need to be a contortionist to practice ShantiYoga. ShantiYoga is actively working towards making its facilities and courses suitable to people with disabilities. Although we are not as yet equipped to cater for all needs, considerable steps have been taken in this direction. The following core subjects are on offer.

i The Heart of Movement
Basic anatomy and functional physiology for Yoga Teachers.
Knowledge of the anatomical bases of the human form, with an emphasis on understanding the musculoskeletal system. Physiology is the study of how the body functions at cellular, molecular, tissue, organ and system levels. This helps with understanding how to reduce pain, stiffness, anxiety and promote wellbeing through the chemical and cellular changes that occur within the body.

ii Energy Anatomy & Physiology
The only currency on this planet is energy. All of life functions by means of a fundamental energy or life-force, which yogis call ‘prana', which in the human body acts according to definite laws and principles, just as any other form of energy. The experience that takes place within the microcosm reveals the secrets of the world outside - the macrocosm.

Yoga does not view the human system merely as a physical body. The Vedic seers expounded that the human system was a holistic matrix of five distinct but symbiotic layers. Merely looking at one layer might not provide the reality of our situation, nor will it offer all the solutions that are possible. Yoga is an important system of practice presenting various tools to explore the different dimensions of our holistic human system, recognise each one's presence, importance, and influence on the others, reach each of them and understand the how they operate as described in the Vedic teachings which include: Body awareness; the concept of psychic anatomy; the higher awareness of the subtle body, its stored power, Kundalini and the microcosmic centres, vortexes of energy, Chakras, that are the blue-prints and fore-runners of the endocrine glands; higher physiology in the Yogic understanding of the origins of life and consciousness - are all Shanti Yoga healing tools. Built around the tantric science of brain breathing, various Yoga exercises, classical techniques and practices of bandhas and pranayamas to move energy:
• control the body’s subtle energies
• release blockages and restrictions in the natural functions of prana and amplify its activity
• purify the subtle energy body and chakras, together with the spine, nerves, mind, heart
• strengthen the subtle currents of life force in the spine
• generate and distribute life force throughout the body, allowing the body to accommodate more vital energy, bringing about an inner awakening and bliss.

iii Ayurveda, science of healthy living & self healing.
The Ayurvedic way of life prepares one's physical body for Yoga. You will learn the science of constitution and body-type which relates to keeping your body-type in balance and maximising your health and longevity. You will learn how to use food, herbs, exercise, lifestyle factors, purification measures as tools for health.

iv Personalised Spiritual Practice, sadhana,
Healers must begin with healing themselves. This is consciousness in motion. Yogic terminology on which Yogic observation and practice is based.
• Back to wholeness: Vedic principles of living
• Cleansing techniques
• Correlation between Yoga and other modalities
• Yoga diet, personality, outlook on life, role in health care

v Asana-2 to purify, align and strengthen.
Learn to provide an adapted program of safe yoga practices for the 'flexibily challenged' and those with physical limitations that can be followed up at home without pain, fatigue, boredom or the fear of injury. Addressing varying levels of ability and starting people wherever they are - stiff and out of shape, sick, weak, aged, convalescing, coming out of substance abuse, injury, etc. Modifying the asana to the person, rather than the person to the asana, helps each individual find the safest most comfortable way to practice Yoga with compassion and without judgement. Present an entire program to loosen, de-tox, stimulate, heal the glands, improve health, structure and functioning of the body. You will need to be competent in 400+ practices as taught in Shanti Yoga and be able to impart them.
• Facilitating movement
• The grace of subtle alignment
• Countering the negatives of gravity and ageing in Yoga
• Specialist instruction to the infirm, elderly, pregnant

TANTRA
Rishi. Yoga & Relationships

We cover two major textual studies which include the inspiration behind Yoga: The Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita, which will take up the bulk of this course, together with some explorations around the mind-body. These teachings are embedded in Shantiji's classes that also include asana, pranayama and nidra, making it easier for the student to remember, understand and grow. Thus Shanti Yoga wisdom teachings include:

1. Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the most fundamental text on Yoga dates back to the period between the second and the end of the third centuries. Patanjali is often wrongly regarded as the “father of Yoga". His great contribution however was to compile and systematise existing knowledge on Yoga and give Yoga a philosophical shape that allowed it to compete with other contemporary schools of thought. The 196 verses (sutras) of the text are short aphorisms, which are grouped in four chapters:
i. The first chapter entitled 'Samadhi Pada' presents the definitive sutra on Yoga and describes our state of mind in Yoga and in no-Yoga.
ii. The second chapter, 'Sadhana Pada' presents Yoga as practice.
iii. Chapter three, 'Vibhuti Pada' discusses the results that
those who practice Yoga can achieve as well as the dangers of these changes.
iv. The fourth chapter, 'Kaivalya Pada' concerns the freedom to which Yoga can lead.

2. The Bhagavad Gita (The Song of God) is both one of the most sacred books in India and slo one of the most profound statements of yoga. In the West many of us find that karma yoga is the most suitable practice and the Bhagavad Gita is unparalleled as a statement of this form i.e. the yoga of conscious service. Through reflection on the text and the many commentaries we can evolve a perceptual framework which allows us to transmute daily life experience into a vehicle for liberation.

3. Yoga psychology with a focus on mind-body health.
The Real inspires. The Spirit releases abundance into the soul, enlightens the mind, releases life force into the breath which nourishes and heals the body, its temple. The relationship of yoga with the whole in realising the Self, mental health, life mission, and the spiritual laws of success are all explored at this level.

The Mind-Body. The body is both an expression of our present experience and an embodiment of our history. Our postures, how we move, touch and receive touch, the energetic statements that our bodies make - all these factors are rich with information about our individual and collective experience of life. Our bodies reflect and inform our thinking, and our thinking influences how we arrange our bodies. This interaction is an everchanging dance. What is hidden from our conscious awareness may be revealed and considered when we pay attention not only to our emotional or mental/cognitive process but also to the process of the body. The body is not a concrete event. It's a molecular process - a moving event.

4. Success without Stress. Post-graduate studies in a Yoga-based stress management program that is being used successfully in hospitals, mental-health settings, seniors' care, stress management programs and corporate wellness. Together with deep systematic relaxation to release all tension, the breath is used to draw the mind and the senses inward, renewing fluidity to mind and body, relieving fatigue and depression.

5. Yoga Communication. The authoritive Guinness Book of Records rates speaking to an audience as a human being's second greatest fear - second only to the fear of death. Yet, the key to your success depends upon your ability to speak effectively. This course will not only eliminate that fear, but give you a wealth of specific skills, so that when you speak to one person or an audience of thousands, you will have the rare ability to make people sit up and listen…to you.
• Presentation skills
• Develop confidence and impact on speaking in public
• Body language and communication
• People skills
• Successful leadership
• Management
• The art of demonstration - video sessions

EDUCATION FOR PEACE changing lives now ... and forever - Facilitator Skils Certificate

What do you think the world and its 5 billion people need most of all at this moment in history? Considering all the wars and revolutions going on now, as well as the violence on the streets and at home, most people would say “Peace!” But, just what is Peace anyway?

World peace may seem a long way off, and a very difficult destination to reach, and everyone can feel impotent to do anything to bring it about, but as an ancient Chinese proverb wisely tells us: A journey of a thousand miles begins with just one step. This first step is what EDUCATION FOR PEACE is all about - a step towards affirming a positive universal vision of Peace and One World.

We take a positive and optimistic approach to individual and World peace that does not simply concentrate on its ugly opposite of war and violence. We aim to avoid creating fear and anxiety in people’s minds, especially young people. There is no wish to induce any urgency over the threat of nuclear war at such an age level, even though such worries over the future of humankind may well already exist. By focusing on what we as individuals can practically do to create peace in our thoughts, activities, relationships - within our small ‘worlds’, we hope to instill a sense of purpose and importance within individuals who are in reality the very ‘seeds of Peace’, from which peace must grow.

The lessons aim to encourage creative positive ideas, activities, presentations and research about Peace and are (therefore) ‘individualistic’ in their orientation, revolving around the central belief that the world can only become peaceful if the people living in it first learn to become peaceful themselves. In this way, peace begins with the individual, with you and me.

The lessons also aim not simply to ‘teach’ certain ideas on peace, but to stimulate students into creating their own ideas and into formulating their own attitudes about peace. Rather than feeding the information and ideas into their minds all the time, the lessons encourage the flow of ideas from their own minds. The process becomes less one of teaching and more one of learning, through the stimulation and sharing of ideas and opinions.

Equally important the lessons, rather than being seen as ‘work’ - and certainly not as hard work - or examination orientated, should be both enjoyable and relatively easy yet at the same time creative and educational. One of the sad facts about the modern education system is that perhaps in its eagerness to ‘produce results’ and its bias towards exams and competitiveness, the enjoyment and creativity of education has to a large degree been lost. Students often develop a dislike of ‘work’ and ‘discipline’ when they are not balanced with the inspiration of more creative research and spontaneous discussion and activity. Therefore, ‘Peace Lessons’ aim to be different in their content and methodology, particularly encouraging plenty of group discussion and activity, with students seeing the lesson as an enjoyable, non-competitive process of learning, sharing and voicing their own opinions on an important subject such as peace.

PHILOSOPHY & SPIRITUALITY
Seven courses

Interdisciplinary, involving philosophy, psychology, sociology, literature and comparative religious studies. We focus on how people connect with each other (society) and how people perceive themselves and how outsiders perceive them (culture). The studies are both contemporary and historical.

It makes no difference whether you worship God, Jehovah, Allah, Mohammed, Buddha, Christ, Krishna or Truth - it is still and always one and the same God. The difference is only in the name, such as God, Gott, Dieu or Dios. The omnipotent, the almighty is and always will be the same whether one is Hindu, Brahmin, Christian or whatever.

• Specialist instruction to the infirm, elderly, pregnant
mothers, private pupils
• Safety requirements - dangers, cautions, modifications

SHANTI YOGA WISDOM TEACHINGS Five Courses
• Raja Yoga • Bhakti Yoga • Jnana Yoga • Yoga Communication • Tantra: Yoga & Relationships

The fundamentals of Yoga do not lie in asana and pranayama
but in awareness in every action and combining body, mind and spirit.

When we look at Yoga not just in the form of practice but as a life process, then every action will become part of Karma Yoga, every understanding will be part of Jnana Yoga, every effort that you make will be part of Raja Yoga and every experience you may have will become part of Dhyana Yoga.

RAJA YOGA
Samrajya. Sutras & Raja Yoga. Poise, Balance

BHAKTI YOGA
Hari. Focus, Concentration, Relaxation and Stillness.

JNANA YOGA
Jnani. The Gita, Dharma & Karma

YOGA COMMUNICATION
Paramahamsa. Presentations & Public Speaking

TANTRA

THE HEALTHY BACK

The following is a testimonial from a student who has just finished Shanti's 4 week Healthy Back course. We have withheld his name for privacy but he labeled himself as an "entrenched sceptic".

Dear Shanti,

As a long-term sufferer of lower back pain, I would like to express my gratitude to you for providing me with tools to not only relieve the pain, but also to alleviate some of the causes of discomfort. In just four short sessions you have helped me help myself in making my body more supple and flexible and the results are astounding! I no longer wake up every time I turn over in bed at night, my golf swing has loosened up considerably and I know what I need to do to get things back into shape after having weeded the garden - just to name a few of the benefits.

The beauty of what you have taught us lies in the simplicity of the actions that are required, the modest investment in time and the lack of equipment necessary to perform the exercises!

Thank you for making my life more enjoyable.

Diagnosed with a herniated disc?
Many students attend the Shanti Yoga centre suffering from lower back pain. Some have resigned themselves to going on with a sore hip and back for the rest of their lives and are ready to go shopping for a walking stick. After spending a lifetime of doing whatever, they felt that this was a reasonable expectation. Many have been hospitalised for back pain treatment. They complain that their back went out, others tell me that they have a slipped or ruptured disc in their back. What they're most likely describing is a herniated disc. This condition is a common source of back and leg pain. There are days when they cannot move. The pain in the lower back, the shooting pain in the hip, often runs down their sciatic nerve in the leg. They claim that they have been through different types of treatments including traction, anti-inflammatories, heat treatments, massage and have visited everyone from physiotherapists to chiropractors and had all sorts of x-rays. Some have been helped, whilst others claim that their condition appears to get worse from time to time.

Discs are soft cushions found between your vertebrae that make up your spinal column (your backbone). In the middle of your spinal column is your spinal canal, a hollow space that contains your spinal cord. The nerves that supply the arms, leg and torso come from your spinal cord.

The nerves from your neck supply your arms and hands and the nerves from your lower back supply your buttocks and legs. The discs between your vertebrae allow your back to move freely and act as shock absorbers.

A disc is made up of two main sections. The outer part (the annulus) is made up of tough cartilage that is comprised of a series of rings. The center of the disc is a jelly-like substance called the nucleus pulposus. A disc herniates or ruptures when part of the jelly-like center pushes through the outer wall of the disc into the spinal canal, placing pressure on the nerves. A disc bulge is when the jelly-like substance pushes the outer wall but doesn't completely go through the wall.

How do you know whether you have a herniated disc?
Your medical history is the key to your proper diagnosis. A physical examination can usually determine which nerve roots are affected (and how seriously). A simple x-ray may show evidence of disc or degenerative spinal changes. An MRI scan (magnetic resonance imaging) is usually the preferred but more expensive option to determine which disc has herniated.

Why do discs herniate?
Discs are primarily composed of fluid. As we become older (after the age of 30), the fluid content of the discs decrease, so they begin to shrink and lose their shape. When the disc becomes smaller, the space between the vertebrae decreases and become narrower. Also, as the disc loses its fluid content, the disc itself becomes less flexible.

Aging, inappropriate wind in the body, bowel dysfunctioning, excessive weight, improper lifting and the decrease of fluid in the discs, all contribute to the breaking down of discs. One of the primary causes of a herniation or bluge is uneven compression and torsion that's placed on the discs.

This uneven pressure is caused by imbalances in the muscles that pull the spine out of its normal position. When this occurs, your body is forced to function in what is basically physical dysfunctioning. Every human being develops these dysfunctions over time and eventually they cause enough damage to create pain.

What do you feel?
Lower back pain will affect four out of five people during their lifetime. The most common symptom of a herniated disc is sciatica. Sciatica is best described as a sharp, often shooting pain that begins in the buttocks and goes down one leg. This is most often caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve that exits the spinal cord. Other symptoms include:

• Weakness in one leg or both legs
• Numbness and tingling in one leg (pins and needles)
• A burning pain centered in the lower back
• Loss of bladder or bowel control (seek medical attention immediately)
• Back pain with gradually increasing leg pain. (If you have weakness in both legs, please seek immediate attention.)

Back pain affects approximately 80% of Australians at some point in their lives and is a leading cause of disability in persons under the age of 45. There is considerable confusion as to the actual cause and best treatment for lower back pain. This results in a significant number of people having avoidable back surgery and often experiencing unnecessary pain and suffering.

Treatment options
When it comes to treating a herniated disc, there are traditional treatments such as ice/heat, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, cortisone injections, anti-inflammatory medication and even surgery. While these may deliver some relief, it will usually be temporary, if at all. The major problem with these traditional treatments is that they can't fix or heal a herniated disc as they do not address the actual cause of the problem. For example, even if you were to have surgery and get some pain relief, the fact is the dysfunctions that caused the disc to herniate in the first place are still there and if not addressed, they will continue to place uneven pressure and strain on the discs and sooner or later it will be likely that you will have another problem with that disc, or others.

Without identifying and addressing the underlying cause of the problem, which is the physical dysfunctions caused by imbalances in muscles, you will most likely continue to suffer from this condition and the continuous flare ups for years. Unfortunately, most doctors, chiropractors and physical therapists don't spend time focusing on or identifying the physical dysfunctions that are responsible for the condition, so most people end up jumping from one temporary traditional treatment to the next, suffering for months or years unnecessarily. If you have been diagnosed with a herniated disc, or are wondering if your back pain may be caused by a herniated disc, either way, you must identify and address the physical dysfunctions that are causing your pain as part of your recovery.

Dysfunction
Back pain does not happen overnight. While the pain may appear suddenly, the fact is that the problem has been developing for months or more likely, years. Stress, tension and long-standing habit patterns have been determined to be leading causes of back pain but are often misdiagnosed. The reason you have back pain is because your body and spine have been pulled out of their normal position into what is commonly known as dysfunctions. If you, like most people, move around and live your life without ever being aware that you are forcing your body to work with these dysfunctions, sooner or later your body breaks down. Physical dysfunctions develop over time and are the direct result of imbalances between various muscle groups. Back pain begins with muscle imbalances that over time create a dysfunction. Your body is then forced to work each day with this dysfunction and eventually this creates a condition, like a herniated disc for example. This is the hidden cause of nearly every case of back pain and sciatica.

Muscle imbalances occur when a muscle or group of muscles overpowers the opposing muscle(s). Think of it like a tug-of-war. When your muscles are out of balance, they pull your bones and joints out of their normal position and this places them under constant and uneven stress. When your body is out of alignment, the level of stress on certain muscles, bones and joints increases and even the smallest muscle imbalance can, over time, pull you out of balance and place tremendous amounts of uneven pressure and wear and tear on your body, especially the vertebrae, discs, spine and its supporting muscles. This condition causes pain and as you know, pain is your body's way of alerting you to a problem that needs to be fixed, just as a light on the dashboard of a car alerts the driver to a problem.

There are several factors that contribute to and create muscle imbalances. These include how active you are, what activities you frequently perform, if you exercise, the types of exercises you perform, how you sit, stand and walk and if you work, what type of work you do, etc.

It is also important to know that everyone has muscle imbalances and as you may have already realised, muscle imbalances are responsible for more than just back pain and sciatica. Just to make sure you understand and grasp this concept, hereÕs a quick analogy. When you drive your car with unbalanced tires or your steering is out of alignment, your tires will wear down unevenly and quicker than normal and eventually you'll have a blowout. The same is true of your body. Even if you injured your back while lifting something or gardening, we are certain that this isn't the underlying cause. What caused it was the months and years of uneven pressure and wear and tear on your body caused by muscle imbalances. The event simply was your body finally breaking down. Failure to address the whole body is the reason why people have back pain for so long.

There are effective tools to wipe out back pain and get your life back
The good news is, there are some easy solutions. You can learn to reduce many of the causative factors.
Shantiji has put together a program consisting of a set of simple exercises provided by Yoga to teach you how to manage you back. We encourage you to join this 4-week training now.

This practical workshop specialises in treating stress-related back pain together with stress management and will assist you with treatment strategies for curing back pain without or after surgery. We know that you can fix a lot of the causes of your back-pain. For instance, you can reduce the muscle imbalances pulling your pelvis and spine out of position with corrective yoga stretches; you can reduce the physiological contributors to pain, like inflammation by addressing your diet which could be causing inappropriate wind in your body and contributing to your acid levels; you can decompress your spine with yoga inversion therapy; you can relieve acute pain from muscle-strain or exercise with the application of Ayurvedic herbal oils and heat.

In understanding your muscle imbalances, you can prevent them causing and contributing to your pain. You will learn to attune your awareness to pinpoint your physical dysfunctions and address the ones responsible for your pain. Firstly, we must fix your posture so that you're not working against your own treatments everyday. There are pain management strategies you must undertake, restorative exercises you should be doing, followed later on by strengthening regimes. You will need to undertake corrective exercises, stretches, self treatments and pain reduction strategies that are specific to your physical condition. These are necessary for you to reduce and effectively manage your pain and rebalance your body while you ae also working on eliminating the underlying cause and your pain. Yes, you can. We are here to help you make it happen.

Neurosis as a Path of Liberation
The work of Shanti Gowans offer a developmental view - that our once-appropriate survival strategies from childhood become outdated, avoidant strategies, or neuroses, as adults. Examining these historically conditioned patterns allows us to live more accurately in the present.

The Eastern wisdom view is fruitional - that our fundamental nature of open awareness holds all experience without bias. Neurosis is not wrong; it is simply what happens when we relate to the truth of our experience with aggression. Join Shanti Gowans and Pam McAsey to discover how two views complement each other and psychotherapy and how they can be an invaluable part of a path of liberation.

What does a clinical psychologist do?
A clinical psychologist helps people deal with their problems, adjust to life’s difficulties and change their behavior for the better. Typically they work with people who need more intensive or longer-term intervention than those seeing a counseling psychologist, though the positions are similar in many ways. A clinical psychologist might have clients with chronic conditions such as anxiety and panic disorder, who have endured child abuse, or who have physical conditions causing psychological problems.

Attend 6 weekly fantastic, fun, effective group sessions led by Pam McAsay, Clinical Psychologist and Shanti Gowans, yoga and meditation master, who share the secrets of how to •Feel good now • sleep better • have more energy • freedom from fear and • relax without drugs, based on decades of experience. This course weaves together positive time proven eastern healing arts with the latest break throughs in neuroscience, psychology and modern medicine. It also offers highly effective mentoring in wellness and life skills that bring out your confidence, intelligence, unique presence and the best methods for your lifestyle changes. THE ART OF BEING FEARLESS

Amidst the current chaos of the world, many people appear to be scared out of their minds. All too often, their blood rushes with fear each time the news reports about our failing economy and recession, our precious earth which is not only being destroyed by global warming but also by us, and the endless amount of suffering so many people experience resulting from war, violence and crime. The future dream for so many people has apparently come to a screeching halt and people are dumbstruck about to how to proceed. They stand like kangaroos paralysed by the headlights, collectively chanting, 'Nobody moves, nobody gets hurt.'

Sometimes people find what becomes a beacon of hope for them but is hope what we really need to overcome fear and to become fearless? Hope gives us something to hold onto. When we lose or fail, it provides us with motivation to brush ourselves off and try to succeed again. Hope gives us ground to stand and the courage to say, 'Soon. It will get better soon.' Yet to cultivate true fearlessness, to learn how to walk though the fire and not run and hide from it, requires giving up hope. Sounds scary? I know…but stay with me.

In our quest for uncovering what lies beneath all sources of fear, many people discover that the common denominator is uncertainty. Many people are afraid of what they don’t know and of what is out of our control. When we fear the big black hole called the future, we lie awake at night with anxiety in our hearts and lumps in our throats as the endless questions without answers spin around in our minds which could include: Will I lose my job? Will my partner leave me for someone else? Will this world end up being destroyed by terrorism? Will my child get into drugs or a drink driving accident? Is someone out to get/hurt me? Will I die before I have gotten the opportunity to live my dream?

The times when we walk around free of fear, are often the times when the money is rolling in, when our careers are at an all time high, when we are madly in love, or when our children are thriving and succeeding in life. We’ve clicked into a groove with the universe and everything is dancing to the very song we are singing. We feel fearless, invincible, in control and certain. But then something not so pleasant occurs, which knocks the wind out of our sails, castles we built begin to crumble and rugs get pulled out from under our feet. It feels like we are being tested. Whilst all of this is certainly part of life, it can still be very frightening.

So what do we do when our certainty has been dismantled? We can keep busy in a myriad of creative ways; by working until the wee hours of the night - jumping each time our mobiles 'ding'; call our friends; go to the movies, drink or partake in other substances; do anything and everything possible to forget about how paralysed with fear we are. Or we can deal with it; stay right in the present moment with the not so pleasant situation that has happened to us. It is impossible to worry about the future or regret past actions, which have possibly brought us to this place of fear when we are genuinely focused on the present moment. The present moment is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present. In the present is the presence.

Fearlessness is not something you can buy at Myer. People who have learnt the art of fearlessness, of staying with the present moment, are not attached to the outcome of any situation. They trade in certainty for curiosity. They become curious about their fear, and investigate: how does my fear make me feel physically? Where abouts in my body is it located? Exactly what am I so afraid of? They’re willing to acknowledge that security is an illusion and so is being in control. They live with the freedom of never needing to be ‘right’; they just simply take the appropriate action. They live in the present moment with their fear, knowing that fearlessness is not the absence of fear but it lies in courageously waiting it out. Rather than run, or hide, or distract themselves, they sit in the center of their storm until it passes. The only thing for certain is that it will pass, as it always does. A sign of true health is when we don’t become undone by fear but take it as a message that it’s time to stop struggling and look directly at what’s threatening us.

You would have had to have experienced fear many times in your own personal life. I invite you to shake its hand the next time it catches you off guard. Aim to no longer turn away from it. Instead, do your best to stay and learn some great lessons from your friend called fear. It’s an incredible experience to breathe in its essence, to know that it has come to awaken you to something not yet understood. Our lives will never be free of fear; it’s part of being human. The ability is to somehow change the relationship we with have with it, so that it no longer has a hold on us. If we could become more comfortable with our fear, we could all breathe a little easier, and learn to simply be with the moment we have found ourselves in.

Fearlessness is the first prerequisite to a spiritual life.

What can you do as antidote for obstacles? Engage in practice yourself.

In these times it is especially important to live intentionally and take responsibility for your own spiritual evolution. The rest of nature evolves at the dictates of natures law and order, yet it is natural for human being to become free and this requires intentional practice with a definite purpose.

Firstly, it is important to become really clear exactly what that purpose is and then place it at the forefront of your everyday life.

The systematised body of knowledge that is Yoga, represents the world’s oldest method for improving your health and well-being and being the change in the world you want to see.

Shanti Yoga is an innovative system of gentle, traditional yoga practices for health, relaxation, rejuvenation and evolution. Shanti yoga classes blend breathing, visualisation, and simple movements that energise and harmonise your entire being. Beginners are welcome.

These practices are based on a societal vision and aspiration to help the world and cultivate human dignity, leadership and natural gifts that enable a teacher to widen their sphere of compassionate and practical influence.

Shantiji has been offering yoga and meditation classes and ayurveda health principles and practices ever since she came to Australia from India, in 1972. We have never veered off track and have been true to this vision and delivered thirty-eight years of the highest level of inspiration and training in these fields. We offer an open invitation to all beloved yoga friends, students of yoga and ayurvedic health, enlightenment and meditation, and colleagues who wish to participate in their destiny.

Whilst there are many avenues for entering the sacred path or the way of yoga, essentially they all are of two kinds: entering through Principle and entering through Practice. We have been pioneers in education strategies and stalwarts both these areas and in the arena of yoga health education and treatments. It has long been our goal to create an environment for this kind of healing and personal transformation. Shantiji has authored a series of text books for the Sacred Path of Yoga and its applied teaching with commentaries and on how to practice and deliver them in modern times.

Shanti yoga is a spiritual discipline that cultivates body and mind simultaneously. It guides the flow of internal energy (prana and kundalini) with techniques of conserving, gathering, cultivating, nourishing and transforming energies that are the source of a healthy body and a clear mind.

In order to insure the highest level of teaching, Shanti yoga teacher training emphasises the spiritual as well as the physical aspects of yoga and is delivered at the levels of Certificate IV in Yoga Education, Diploma in Yoga Teaching and Advanced Diploma in Yoga Teaching. It provides inspiration, instruction, guidance and the practice requirements. It is open to all who approach it with a sincere and humble attitude. Students participate in meditation, reading, discussion and other activities designed to help the student move towards an integrated understanding of yoga. The training goes into the fundamentals, intermediate and advanced depth at each level. Each student is required to pass all aspects of one level before participating in the next.

We hope that more and more people, like you, will take it upon themselves to go beyond the mere study of technique and seek the deeper meaning and potential behind this incredible training in peace. New and experienced practitioners are welcome to attend our training. If you are traveling from out of town, let us know, and we will try to connect you with local participants who can give you a place to stay.
