You are worthy, valuable and important.
Love who you are, the ways you are like no one else,
and the ways in which you are similar to everyone.
Unplug for a while,
tend to your needs,
and love yourself for the ways you change your mind,
and you are not the same person you used to be.
Love yourself when things are hard.
Love yourself even when it hurts.
Take time for yourself.
Slow down for a moment,
so you can respond instead of react.
Allow yourself the time to lower your adrenalin,
cortisol and all those stress hormones.
Life is about more than work, obligations and to do lists.
The glorification of busy,
in a culture that is speed-addictive will destroy you.
Without time for reflection,
space for healing,
the opportunity to surrender,
you burn out on the fuels of willfulness
and the fires of overwhelm.
Now, more than ever,
you need to notice your breath, your body, your feelings,
so that you can live and love consciously,
embrace who you are,
and ground yourself in your divine purpose for being here.

AWAKENING, PURPOSE, COMMUNITY

We’ve come a long way since the pandemic. The world is slowly opening up again and going back to a new normal, which we are steadily adapting to. Covid-19 didn’t go easy on anyone, and although we’ve relaxed from the global fear and panic, there are still people contracting the virus everyday, who experience trauma and continued pain, anxiety, stress, and depression,

Times have changed. All our lives and in some cases livelihoods, have been impacted by the changes associated with Covid over the last few years. Inflation is on the rise. Soaring grocery bills, shortages, rocketing fuel prices, major electricity price hikes. Economists are predicting we’re headed for one of the worst recessions in history, and people all over the world are now making decisions about what to spend their money on, and what luxuries and non-essentials to reduce, as the cost of living explodes. The outcome from all of this is that our nervous systems have been sorely challenged and there has been a substantial rise in the number of people experiencing psychological distress.

Taking note of the spiralling decline in general wellbeing and happiness, as we progress towards a new future, we, here at the Shanti Yoga Centre, are inspired to help you find your way. Students who are returning to yoga seeking solace and relief from psychological distress know that there has never been a better, more critical time to regroup. Here at HIA Shanti Yoga, we offer the essentials - helping you get free from debilitating pain, improve your breathing, recover from injuries and dysfunction, and increase your energy, wellbeing and happiness.

Awakening, purpose and community (buddha, dharma and sangha) are the means to understanding our pain points, and increasing our spiritual, mental and physical wellbeing to combat the decline and repercussions of Covid-since 2019, the floods, the war, the fires and various forms of personal and global upheaval.

FRACTURE MUSINGS

My deep and humble gratitude to all your kindness whilst my arm was in the plaster of Paris cast, then the fibreglass cast, and now, with the fracture stable, in a mobile cast, whilst still being housebound. And, for these and so many other joys and lessons, I am truly grateful.

In Chapter 2 of the Bhagavad Gita (the yoga of knowledge), we come upon the distinction between the Self and the body, and not grieving for what is imperishable.

Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings;
nor in the future shall any of us cease to be. Bhagavad Gita 2:12

On the field of dharma, being aware of my mortality, and wanting to offer as beneficial an impact as I could with my life, (similar to so many healers), I have consciously chosen to prioritise my dharmic wellness work over my personal needs.

Nevertheless, in as much as we grow our capacity for inclusiveness, so too we are challenged to hold protective boundaries around the life we build. Every separation we make, from a person, place, or activity, that cannot meet us where we stand, by choice or circumstances, is a step towards our true belonging. I have decided to re-evaluate my over-scheduling. The process of change requires unlearning and breaking the habit of the old self and reinventing a new self, or selfless beingness.

But are they lessons, all these things I learn
Through being so far gone in my decline?
The wages of experience I earn
Would service well a younger life than mine.
I should have been more kind. It is my fate
To find this out, but find it out too late…

Be still and listen to the infinite awareness that creates and lives through you, pointing the way to your expansion, inspiring in you, a thought, an action, an idea that feels like a natural next step.

Don’t just go for what you think might work or for what others want to hear, for what makes money or gets likes or checks the shoulds and haves boxes of the world. Go for what feels the truest, most fulfilling to your soul.

These ideas and desires, when in alignment with your soul, are evidence that your expansion has begun and are clear indications of the direction that you should be taking. They are the green flags of deliberate creation.

Your desire is the biggest sign you need. It is a message from the universe or your deeper self that comes to transform, empower and expand you, not just to solve a problem or to tease you with something that you can’t attain.

Once your mind and heart have been expanded by the possibility of something wonderful and life-giving to you (and therefore to others, since we are all interconnected), you must do your best to follow it. When you say yes to that vision, dream, idea, to that desire being born in you you align yourself with the intelligent universal awareness that gave rise to you; and you start operating as the creator, lover and artist of your life vs. the victim or problem-fixer of your circumstances.

SHANTI YOGA TURNS 50!

September this year will mark 50 years since the inception of Shanti Yoga. We are super chuffed to celebrate five decades in education for peace and holistic wellbeing, and have come a long way since our first yoga class in an arts school, amongst easels and yoga mats, on a paint splattered floor, to what we are today. While we know our dedication and commitment steered this path, we also know that it takes two to tango! We could not have done it without our loyal students who inspire us daily, and it’s an honour to talk about our team’s talent and support, as they have grown with us, and kept us focused on developing the innovation required to meet public expectations, the adaptability to meet the changing demands of government, and the technology which has radically altered so many things we do.

Yoga will improve your physical and mental health, help you become more productive at work, more caring in your relationships, and a more responsible contributor to society and inhabitant on this planet. How yoga does this is based on how the human body/mind functions, how we are built and wired, and how what we do, can direct and change that.

Drawing on modern neuro-science, ancient wisdom, and decades of practice and teaching, Shanti Yoga is a testimony to how what we do affects who we become, and reveals how a steady routine of mindful yoga movements, activities, and attitudes are able to transform not just our bodies but our brain functions and emotions, and how we experience life.
