Become a Certified Children’s Yoga Teacher



This is a 6-month, 200-hour foundational course. It is designed for you to teach children from ages 5-11.

This foundational course is designed for you to teach children from ages 5-11 in blended class delivery, comprising face-to-face attendance over two weekends, in combination with self-paced learning at home, with the range of Shanti Yoga resources.

Short Course Terms & Enrolment
There is no greater joy or more rewarding career anywhere than being a teacher of yoga. This is especially true when the lives you are impacting are those of children. In our world today, we can make a significant difference in dramatically impacting violence, hatred, anger, poverty, aggressive behavior, depression, school drop-outs, alcohol and drug addiction, and all other undesirable behaviours and states of mind simply by teaching generations of children the life-impacting principles that will assist them to develop high self-esteem and design their lives with a positive expectation for the future. The Health Institute Australia’s Shanti Yoga for Children program is such a wonderful way to have a positive, peaceful, loving impact on our world, bringing Shantiji’s vision to life and for you to continue to spread the light. It teaches fitness, health and life skills through yoga.

The yoga-based education program benefits children, parents and teachers. It provides simple yoga practices designed for the classroom and is at three developmental levels and addresses multiple intelligences. It enhances health, concentration, relaxation and learning and is a wonderful tool for effective class management.

If you are a mum, teacher, childcare provider or someone who cares deeply about the wellbeing of the children in your life, and find yourself needing new ideas, inspiration and enthusiasm, we have good news for you. Research has proven that consistent yoga practice facilitates children in staying grounded and helps them navigate their way through daily stress.

You will learn:
  • The fundamentals of the Shanti Yoga way of teaching and a whole new array of creative ways to connect with children.
  • How to get in touch with your own body’s love of movement, wisdom and creativity.
  • To experience new ways for you and your children to access inner happiness.
  • How to create, design and plan classes with passion and enthusiasm.
  • How to include all the components that make up a great children’s yoga class, including yoga postures, movements and exercises (asanas), yogic breathing (pranayama), meditation (antar mouna) and relaxation (nidra).
  • How to engage, inspire, teach and deliver children’s yoga classes that leave each and every child feeling happy, empowered and believing in themselves
Shanti Yoga for children is a system of many different things to practice and ways to think and feel, which make the body and mind strong and healthy and help children to be happy, peaceful and full of good energy. These practices, for physical, mental and emotional well-being including Asanas (physical yoga exercises), Pranayama (yogic breathing), Concentration, Visualisation and Relaxation, together with art, dance, play, singing and chanting, poems and yoga stories.

This leads to improved: concentration, balance, co-ordination, body mechanics, trunk stability, postural stability, self esteem, self confidence, social interaction, health & wellbeing, relaxation, head control, fun, and more.


TUTORIALS OF INITIAL TRAINING
The concept, philosophy, methods and training objectives of Shanti Yoga for Children is taught during your initial weekend intensive, consisting 4 sessions of fun, laughter, love, learning and inspiration that will help you connect in new and exciting ways with the child within you.

This weekend intensive is inclusive of:
Face-to-face training, learning by doing on Mondays 2:30-5 pm x 4
You will leave with tools, practices and fun techniques to begin using with children immediately. You will then serve your apprenticeship, with home study and practicum designed to be completed in 6-12 months.

The comprehensive training consists of:
Learn the fundamentals of the Shanti Yoga way of teaching and a whole new array of creative ways to connect with children.
Practicum consists of all the components (content, structure, activities that underpin children’s Yoga) and the Shanti Yoga way of teaching and connecting with children
Get in touch with your own body’s love of movement, wisdom and creativity.
Experience new ways for you and your children to access inner happiness.
Be inspired to be a more effective parent, teacher and role model.
Learn how to create, design and plan classes with passion and enthusiasm.
Include all the components that make up a great children’s yoga class, including yoga postures, movements and exercises (asanas), yogic breathing (pranayama), meditation (antar mauna) and relaxation (nidra).
Engage, inspire, teach and deliver children’s yoga classes that leave each and every child feeling happy, empowered and believing in themselves.
Life changing experiences.

A DAY AT SHANTI YOGA
9 am – 2 pm
Attend a day at Shanti Yoga with pranayama, gentle yoga, and mindfulness. After a short delicious vegetarian lunch, there will be an open discussion.

2:30 – 5:00 pm
In the afternoon, you will attend and observe a children’s yoga class, where you can experience the key concepts and practical project. You will attend, observe, participate, and eventually conduct a small segment of the children’s yoga class. This will extend and build over 4 sessions to include group planning, debrief, and feedback.

5:30 – 6: 25 pm
Wind down for the day attending a Stretch and Tone Yoga session

And after...
You are encouraged to trial and practise your training in your own home.

HOME-STUDY PRACTICUM SUPPORT
You will leave your initial training with tools, practices and fun techniques to begin using with children immediately. You will then serve your apprenticeship, with home study and practicum designed to be completed in 6-12 months.

If you live locally, you can have the privilege of teaching yoga to children at the Shanti Yoga Centre for a minimum of 10 weeks in a group and then 10 weeks solo will be available for eligible and promising trainees. Conditions apply.

If you are a correspondence student, you need to teach one class per week for a duration of 6 months free of charge, before your assessment and certification.

REVISION TRAINING
Upon completion of your home study practicum, you can:
  • Attend a second residential weekend of revision, culmination and integration
  • Present a practicum workshop
  • Be awarded your certification
  • – all at no extra cost.

ASSESSMENT
The opportunity to complete assessment activities using role-play and simulations during the second non-residential weekend workshop.

CERTIFICATION
Certification is optional, at no extra cost. To achieve certification, you are required to:
  • Pay for “Teach Yoga to Children” training course in full
  • Provide evidence of 6 months’ practicum teaching children in the appropriate age group
  • Answer a 50 question multiple choice test. (Most people who take the test pass on their first try. You’ll have up to 6 chances to achieve a passing grade. There is a $250 exam fee for each submission after the first test submission which is free.)
  • Present a practicum workshop.
