MINDFULNESS AND YOGA BREATHING (PRANAYAMA)
Breath will be the medicine of the future. Shanti Gowans

Breathe, Relax, Heal - for mind and body

Guided practice in Mindfulness and Yoga breathing, Pranayama.

The breath is the ultimate power behind the cosmos. Central to the healing process, it is your first and last possession - the natural rhythm of life and your link with the divine of all creation. Breathing irregularities foster disease. In this session, you will dissolve stress, relax your body and mind and open yourself fully and authentically to the transformative power of the spirit in action.

The pranayama action is about how to breathe for optimal health. It offers gentle, powerful and easy-to-follow yoga breathing and visualisation instructions, to soothe away tiredness, stress, and illness. It incorporates the body with universal awareness, diaphragmatic breathing for pulmonary health, the complete (three-part) yogicbreath and sound (vibrational healing) to help you find your home in the breath.

GENTLE YOGA
The body is the mind. Shanti Gowans

Easy, gentle flow yoga

Bring awareness and peace to your morning as you take time to nurture your body and mind.

A well-rounded class that coaxes you to engage in a gentle, yet powerful way to use your limbs, spine, muscles, and lungs and contains all of the Shanti Yoga elements. The class starts with you lying comfortably on a mat on the floor and includes slow-release floor stretches that strengthen and help restore health. The deep breathing practices during the class help you connect your breath with movement, and balance your energies to experience freedom and relaxation. The class concludes with Shanti Yoga sun salutation which is a short, gentle routine with in-built safety modifications, designed to deliver a well rounded, balanced end to the class. For mind-body wellbeing. Walk-in stressed-out, walk-out energised. This class is suitable for everyone.

RELAXATION AND MEDITATION
In silence, we grow, in stillness we heal. Shanti Gowans

A relaxing way to unwind/de-stress/rest the body, still the mind, learn to stay calm, explore your inner universe, awaken extraordinary powers of the mind, and access altered states of consciousness.

Meditation is not complicated or mysterious. It is a natural state of mind which everyone can experience to receive amazing, lasting benefits.. Through the practice of meditation, you  jettison the hype, release mental blocks, unlock feelings of bliss and peace of mind, which enable you to create new, simple, yet powerful perspectives for changes within your mind, to your life and anything else. These changes are intended to help you bring lasting success in all areas of your life, naturally. Abandon personal agendas. When the mind is silent, it radiates compassion, joy, and humour.

People who practice meditation regularly, experience reduced depression, fear, and anxiety; a greater ability to relax and enjoy life; reduced insomnia and levels of stress; improved interpersonal relations; reduced chronic and acute pain and increased inner peace and wellbeing.

Many people think that they cannot meditate because they have too many thoughts running around in their heads, or they’re not instantly “blissed out”! Meditation is a learnt skill that requires practice. No amount of meditation practice ever goes to waste as the benefits are cumulative. What is extremely helpful is to learn to practice with a master of meditation who can guide you.

TRANQUIL TUESDAYS 10:30 am - 1:20 pm

  • Yoga peace: Healing Stillness in Movement 10:30am-12:30pm
  • Yoga nidra, deep relaxation & self healing. 12:30-1:20pm

YOGA PEACE: HEALING STILLNESS IN MOVEMENT

A slower class, with stillness, yielding, surrender, and receptivity that presents the grounded, humble and gentle foundations needed for your journey towards health, mobility and corestrength - your lower back, abdominals, pelvis, and legs. Practised on a comfortable mat on the floor, at a remedial pace that strengthens the body from the inside out.

Experience the simple, therapeutic pleasures of detoxifying your lymphatic system, lubricating your joints, stretching your muscles and invigorating your internal organs, without difficulty or pain. The long, slow-release, healing, floor stretches will help you release deep inner tensions to help restore your body’s natural fluidity and sensitivity.

This class encompasses classical yoga practices that are remedial to assist in the reduction of pain, spasming, rigidity and stress. It also assists in helping increase abdominal tone whilst deepening your awareness of your body, mind, and spirit. For beginners and experienced students alike.

DEEP RELAXATION & SELF HEALING
When the mind touches the body, cells respond. Shanti Gowans

Relax and heal. For stress relief and self-healing.

Guided mindfulness based practice in deep relaxation and self-healing, yoga nidra.

The literal translation of yoga nidra is yogic sleep. This is a simple, guided, transformative, mind-body relaxation session with imagery. It starts with sankalpa, intention, followed by surface-level changes which build and progress, taking you deeper into your subconscious mind. This enables troubling innermost, limiting beliefs, conditioning, and mindsets to change, with long term and permanent results. This integrative practice helps heal unresolved issues and traumas which are present in your mind-body and enables you to access the innate peace of mind within you, which is intrinsically present amidst life’s changing scenery.

Practiced lying down on a comfortable mat, yoga nidra is designed to let you rest and relax deeply, release stress, and help you find your own stillness and calm presence. It also helps you build the mental skills to increase your resilience, improve your interpersonal relationships and provide you with a greater sense of mastery and control in your life which helps lead to inner peace and spontaneous healing. Yoga nidra leads to a blissful experience, where the body is able to totally let go and the mind becomes calm and clear. According to yogic sages, ten minutes of yoga nidra is far superior to three hours of ordinary sleep.

TRANSFORMATIONAL THURSDAYS 10:30 am - 1:15 pm

  • Yoga Mind-Body Renewal 10:30-11:30 am
  • Yoga Flow 11:30 am -12:30 pm
  • Relaxation and Meditation 12:30 am -1:15 pm

YOGA MIND-BODY RENEWAL

Foundational floor Yoga positions in a comfortable relaxed state, are systematically combined with the additional help of other guided Yogic adjuncts, such as locks, seals, gestures and healthy, deep breathing, practiced with awareness, gentleness and non-competitiveness.

Life’s challenges reveal the wounded places within that need to be healed, and, ultimately, transformed. Recognise these wounds and experience the potential for growth that awaits within their healing, as years of accumulated stiffness, tension and energy blocks dissolve, and latent life energy (prana), is awakened, balanced and expanded in the mind-body, leading to a feeling of clarity, lightness and wellbeing.

Let tightness and stiffness be removed from your body and feel the clock turning back. Make the body and mind strong and healthy by integrating a practice of yoga postures and exercises (asanas), yogic breathing (pranayama), concentration (dharana) and inner silence meditation (antar mauna). Feel happy and full of good energy, as you open up a world of peace, creativity, joy, and discipline.

KIRTAN, CHANTING

Musical celebration of global prayer and chants from around the world.

Chanting has been used as a tool for healing and awakening for millennia, in spiritual traditions across the world. In India, the ancient saints, sages, and rishis heard specific sounds, or mantras, in the depths of their meditations. Those “sonic pharmaceuticals” have been passed along for us to use. Chanting workshops stroke the internal flames, nourish the body, transcend the mind, and help us connect fully and deeply to our higher selves. The pure tones of Sanskrit chants vibrate the body at a cellular level, which in turn can improve your circulation, metabolism, endocrine system, chakras as well as align your heart to channel the infinite love, kindness, compassion, and abundance that is all around you. These sacred sounds that have been chanted for millennia, awaken the spiritual heart of healing from within and have the power to bring you into harmony and out of a state of disease. Through call and response chanting (kirtan), stories, sacred sounds and meditation, we practice transmuting negative emotions, opening the heart, and stilling the mind. No singing, chanting or yoga experience necessary, and all are welcome.
